Road tripping TALES FROM OUR CANADA ROADTRIP! May 19 2017

Spring Travels and the Coquihalla

Canada is an incredible country for travel. Some of the most gorgeous places on earth are in Canada. It is also home to some pretty serious weather shifts, so you have to be fashion-weather-ready at all times.

Dave and I are travelers. We go all over the world and carry massive sets of luggage with samples, trade show décor and more. We are always struggling with how to take our personal clothes and boots, when we are so weighed down with work items.

Recently, I put some of our best däv rain travel styles to the test. I chose from our travel collection and packed each style in a carry-on with my week’s wardrobe. It was amazing how well the boots packed and then performed wherever we went.

I set out from Vancouver toward Kelowna and found myself white-knuckled on the Coquihalla Highway. That was crazy, fun, terrifying and gorgeous. I had a light jacket in Vancouver, and then I found myself in zero degree temps and blinding snow. I was really glad that I had my däv boots and what a great chance to test them!

I loved visiting BC and can’t wait for my next trip to Alberta! Thank you Canada – we love you. Kerri, co-founder of däv

FUN FAB FALL August 16 2016

It's always our favorite time of year when you get that first cool breeze after a long, hot summer. The stores are filled cozy fall fashions. Summer fashion is never as exciting as Fall. Fall always dominates the senses. Rich wool, cozy fleece, layers and beautiful coats. Boots and more boots. Chic is never absent when you are wearing a beautiful pair of boots, a classic trench and a whimsical scarf or glasses. Classic can go to funky with a simple accessory change, when the background neutral. A bright scarf or a color pop in your boots can be a lot of fun, yet still look professional.

SPRING transitional wardrobe March 11 2016 1 Comment

We love Spring and all it brings. Green, green grass and flowers make dealing with sometimes blustery weather a good trade-off. But, dealing with unpredictable weather can be a pain - especially when you have to travel.

Our solution is a capsule wardrobe which features about 10 mix and match pieces that can be layered. Easy-to-pack cotton and Lycra mix fabrics in t-shirts and tunics combined with heavy tights and slim black pants are the way to go. Add a couple of really bright pop color items such as a scarf or trench coat brings this comfortable mix up-to-date. Of course, add your fav dav boots to keep your feet dry and your look polished - even in a downpour!

Happy Holidays December 07 2015

HOLIDAY CHEER

Time for a walk through the winter weather, decorate the house with a festive theme and cook something warm and inviting. These are all things that make the holidays special. We all celebrate differently and have different beliefs, but no one can deny that it is a great time to get together with family and friends. 'Let your hearts be light,' as the song says. May the holidays be filled with light, hope and peace. From our family to yours, happy holidays! Love, Dave and Kerri, co-founders of däv

Fall is here August 22 2015

Every year, fall fashions roll out when it is still hot outside. Our minds are fixed on cooler days and also the return of school and fall festivities to come. däv has some amazing new styles for fall. Many have the option to roll up and fit neatly in your bag. As crazy weather hits our country, it is nice to have a pair of all weather boots tucked away in a bag for surprise showers. We live in California where it is dry -- but when it rains it pours! Mud slides and flash floods occur here in the Golden State. We are always grateful for our dav boots which are ready for whatever Mother Nature brings our way.

Below, our Weston boot, rolls up and stows away for travel or a storage in a bag. Pop the boot up and it is a gorgeous, fabric covered boot with a soft lining. I has a waterproof membrane sandwiched between the comfortable fabric layers. It is waterproof all the way to the knee.

Things We love! February 10 2015

This week we're here to rescue you from your Winter Skin Sadness. Although Lana Del Rey knows plenty about Summertime Sadness, we doubt she's familiar with Winter Skin Sadness (ummmm hello have you seen her porcelain skin? Gorg.) Don't worry, we've got the bases covered and we're here to rescue your skin from Winter Time Sadness.
Our first skin saving product is a little gem called Rosehip Oil. You may, or may not have heard of it. It's amazing. Rosehip oil rejuvenates the skin and truly makes your skin glow. This product works well if you put on right before bed. You can even use in the morning too, alone, or under your moisturizer-depending on how dry your skin is. Don't believe us? Just read this Huffington Post article and you'll too become a believer (Miranda Kerr is a believer too). The best part? It will not break the bank. You can get this at Whole Foods for about $13 and it will last several months.
As Lana would say...I just want you to know, that baby you da best...
Next up is this little unassuming bar of soap...
Another bang for your buck, this Sibu sea buckthorn bar soap has helped many who struggle with winter (or even summertime) skin sadness. For just $7 you can have amazing skin. Sounds too good to be true? We thought so too until we tried it out for ourselves. Having been using this for over a year, you have our word that this really works (even for those of us with otherwise very sensitive skin).
Truth be told, we love every Kiehls product we've tried (and we've tried A LOT). BUT, when it comes to under eye skin saving products (we don't use the W-word here-nope. completely off limits), we love the men's Facial Fuel Anti-W. Cream. Yes it's for men and yes, there are plenty of other Kiehls products we like, but this one in particular is loaded with caffeine and can make any tough morning look like a breeze. We do use this morning and night.
And lastly...
One last skin-saving trick is Vitamin E oil (of course). Dab a little bit under your eyes before bed (we put it right on top of the Kiehls product).
What's your favorite skin-saving beauty product?

SuperBowl Sunday February 06 2015

This past weekend was a big weekend- the Super Bowl of course. We hope you enjoyed great company, food and commercials...
Here are the top Things We Loved:
Katy Perry and her dancing sharks definitely added some excitement to the halftime performance. Some even argue that the left shark was the show stealer. The little sharky on the left was a little bit off beat, so naturally he did his own thing. You go left sharky!
The game-winning interception! Yeah!
What a way to make your FIRST career interception!
And the result of that interception...
Same play, way different reactions. Game. Over.
And this video... Will Ferrell is amazing and definitely gives Queen Bey a run for her money. Can you say next backup dancer!?

Things we love! January 21 2015

Hey there, thanks for stopping by!
As every shoe lover knows, a nice pair of heels {or wedges} takes an outfit from good to exceptional. When you aren't sporting your favorite pair of Dav's, it's fun to add a little excitement to your outfit with a pretty pair of shoes. That's exactly what these Kate Spade Saturday shoes do. These high heels are the perfect shade of red and can be dressed in oh so many ways. They can dress up a neutral outfit (think camel, brown, black). We can't get enough of these shoes right now.

We're in LOVE and we don't care who knows it! (Que Elf here)

Looking to fancy up your apartment on a budget? Try H&M Home. You can have all these vases for an affordable price. H&M, you did good.

As if we don't already love Adam Levine and every Maroon 5 song enough before this...their newest video is the tipping point. In their song --Sugar-- the band crashes weddings and surprises the brides with a performance. Clearly the man likes being married and enjoys weddings. And, he doesn't look too bad in a tux either. {Yes, we are aware of the controversy around the video but we still love it!}

Hope this video puts a smile on your face. Have a great day and see you back here next week!

Things we love! {TORONTO} January 13 2015

This week we're heading north to beautiful city of Toronto! This French and English speaking city on the water is considered one of the most livable cities.

In honor of our new Toronto boots, we are exploring the city where it got its name.

Just like the city, the Toronto boot is chic, urban and stylish. Even better, the slip-resistant sole keeps you steady on slick city streets.

The CN Tower is the city's tallest and most recognizable landmark. If you're feeling brave, walk across the glass floor, a mere 113 stories about ground. If you're REALLY brave, try to EdgeWalk, where you'll walk around the outside of the building, 116 floors above the ground. Bon chance!

Considered by some as one of the world's best food markets, St. Lawrence Market is a beautiful covered market with many different types of food and fresh fruits and vegetables.

Have a desire to escape the city? Take a ferry at Queen's Quay and head to the Toronto Islands. Composed of eight small islands, this is a nice day trip to picnic, walk around, kayak and enjoy.

What are your favorite things to do in Toronto?

Tag us in your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram photos in your Dav boots!

Things we love {YOU!} January 13 2015

The best part about the end of the holiday season is that you can {and should} take this time to focus on YOU. Whether that means taking more time for yourself each week, making more time for friends, budgeting or saving smarter or getting in better shape, this is an exciting time to work towards those goals!

Learning a new language is an exciting goal. If you're planning an exciting trip abroad, or if you're just looking to learn another language for personal interest, Duolingo is a free and effective website to help you achieve that goal! Duolingo takes you through every step of learning a new language.

If you've noticed your jeans fitting just a little bit tighter after all the holiday parties, now is a great time to get back into shape. One morning ritual we've found helpful isn't the best tasting, but it's good for digestion, metabolism, balancing sugar levels and equalizing your internal pH levels.

    • 6 oz warm water
    • half a lemon, squeezed
    • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    • stevia to taste
    • Cinnamon {optional}
    • Cayenne Pepper {optional}

Blend the above ingredients and drink. Note: This drink isn't consumed for it's exquisite taste. We recommend having water nearby to wash out the taste immediately after consuming.

Many goals made at the new year include vows to eat healthier. We like this recipe of energy bites for a healthier alternative for when cravings strike.

Here's the recipe for healthier, no-bake energy bites

1/2 cup chocolate chips (coco powder and stevia can be used for a low-cal substitution)

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cup oatmeal, dry

1/2 cup peanut butter (you can used pb2 as a low cal substitution)

1/4 cup honey

1 tbsp chia seeds

1/2 cup ground flax seed

Mix together all ingredients and enjoy

What are your goals for 2015?

Things we love! January 13 2015

Somehow with all the holiday excitement going on, New Year's Eve snuck up on us...And here we are now, embarking on a new year!

Sparkle makes everything a little bit better. Obviously we love the idea of pretty-ing up a nice bottle of champagne. This DYI Sparkly Champagne Bottle will add a gorgeous touch if you are the party host of the NYE party. It also makes for a fabulous hostess gift as a guest.

We solemnly believe this to be true...

Do you already have your NYE outfit picked out? When it comes to finding the perfect outfit to ring in the new year, we say Go For The Glitter!!

Keeping the glitter, but adding a blazer, heels and jeans is a more subtle way to incorporate sequins into your outfit. Fun bracelets are a must!

Whatever you wear and however you decorate, remember...

We'd love to hear from you! How will you celebrate New Year's Eve?

Happy New Year, friends! Have a fun and safe New Year's Eve. See you next year!

Things we love! [Holiday] November 26 2014

Thanksgiving is nearly here, which marks the official start of the holiday season!

As you kick off the holiday season and prepare for Thanksgiving this week, we thought we'd help by offering some fun ideas for turkey day.

Searching for a gift to give the hostess who has everything? It's unlikely they have these one of a kind triangle cutting boards. Handcrafted by a San Francisco wood worker, these beautiful cutting boards will be a great gift.

Looking to make a creative dessert this Thursday? Try this pumpkin cake with caramel-cream cheese frosting from Food & Wine.

FROSTING

  1. 1 cup sugar
  2. 1/2 cup water
  3. 1/2 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped
  4. 1 1/2 sticks (6 ounces) unsalted butter, softened
  5. 2 tablespoons heavy cream
  6. 1 pound cream cheese, cut into 2-inch cubes

CAKE

  1. 2 cups all-purpose flour
  2. 2 1/4 teaspoons baking powder
  3. 1 teaspoon salt
  4. 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  5. 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  6. 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  7. 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  8. 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  9. 1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
  10. 4 large eggs
  11. 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  12. One 15-ounce can pumpkin puree
  13. 1/2 cup whole milk
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the sugar, water, vanilla bean and seeds. Cook over high heat, stirring, until the sugar is dissolved. Using a wet pastry brush, wash down any crystals from the side of the pan. Cook over moderate heat without stirring until a medium-dark amber caramel forms, about 9 minutes. Remove from the heat and immediately stir in the butter and heavy cream. (Don't worry if the butter separates.) Discard the vanilla bean.
  2. Transfer the caramel to the large bowl of a standing mixer fitted with a whisk and beat at low speed until the caramel cools slightly and comes together, about 5 minutes. With the machine on, beat in the cream cheese, 1 cube at a time and beating well between additions, until silky. Transfer the frosting to a bowl and refrigerate until very firm, at least 6 hours.
  3. Preheat the oven to 350°. Butter and flour two 8-inch round cake pans. In a medium bowl, whisk the flour with the baking powder, salt, cinnamon, ginger, baking soda, nutmeg and cloves.
  4. In a bowl, using an electric mixer, beat the brown sugar and eggs at medium-high speed until fluffy, 3 minutes. Beat in the oil, then beat in the pumpkin puree. Alternately add the dry ingredients and the milk in 3 batches, beating well between additions.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared pans and smooth the tops. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean. Let the cakes cool on a rack for 20 minutes. Run a knife around the edges to loosen the cakes, then invert them onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  6. Place one layer on a plate and spread with 1 cup of the caramel–cream cheese frosting. Top with the second layer and frost the top and side. Refrigerate the cake for 2 hours before serving.

We know all too well that good food, an abundance of beverages and little sleep with all the holiday prep can leave under eyes puffy. Fear not! Patchology Energizing Eye Patches can change all of that.

Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving with your loved ones!

For the Coffee Lovers November 06 2014

Just like at most offices, coffee is a necessity here at Dav. That's why we are devoting this week's blog post to one of our true loves: coffee.

Are you a fan of iced-coffee, but can't seem to make it like your favorite coffee shop? Don't worry, you're not alone. That's why Toddy Cold Brew Coffee System  is truly one of our favorite coffee brewing systems. And it's SO simple to use. After placing a tremendous amount of coffee grounds in the top container, which is stopped by a plug and a filter, pour water over and let the coffee and water sit overnight. 12 hours later, take out the plug and let the coffee concentrate drip into the bottom carafe. If refrigerated, the coffee is good for up to two weeks (though, being the coffee addicts we are, we usually finish a batch in about one week). Added bonus: the concentrate can be diluted (or not) to the individual's personal taste. Seriously, we cannot recommend this enough!

Not sure what to do with your used coffee grounds? No compost or garden to place them in? Here's a recipe for a DIY coffee body scrub. Touted for its ability to fight cellulite, we say it's worth a shot.

Image found here

Ingredients:
1/2 cup coffee grounds
1/4 cup white or brown sugar
1/2 cup coconut oil
Directions:
Mix all the ingredients together thoroughly. After you've washed your hair and body, massage the scrub on wet skin and rinse with warm water. Your skin will be soft, hydrated and caffeinated!

Ordering in a panic at the cafe? Fear not-this coffee guide has got you covered!

Happy Halloween!

Last minute Halloween prep? It's not too late to decorate for Halloween with this creative pumpkin decorating step-by-step directions to make black glittered pumpkins that will look good and save you the mess of carving a pumpkin. We like to call this Pumpkin Glamming.

Attention all Harry Potter fans!  Rumor has it that J. K. Rowling is  giving us a sweet treat for Halloween that has nothing to do with chocolate. In a new book she is releasing on the 31st, she's bringing back Dolores Umbridge who was the Senior Undersecretary to the Minister of Magic and the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher at Hogwards. (She was evil BTW). Oh, HP, how we have missed you.

We'll be the first to admit that we love pumpkin everything starting about August. It seems like each year there are more and more pumpkin flavored anything--and we love it. But by about this time, we are pretty much pumpkined-out. This is an accurate depiction of most of us right about now.

Thanks for stopping by for this week's Halloween-themed edition of Things We Love. We hope you have a fun and safe Halloween!

The qualities I most admire in women are confidence and kindness"

Oscar de la Renta, 1932-2014

photo obtained here

The world lost a vibrant gentleman yesterday. Mr. de la Renta, you will certainly be missed.

For this this week's edition of Things We Love, we want to share a great jewelry line we love, headphones that look AND do good, a fun blogging website that is full of fun fashion and style tips, and of course, pay tribute to the genius Oscar de la Renta.

We love Suzanne Skye jewelry because the jewelry is made in the US and the pieces are one of a kind. These pieces can be dressed up or dressed down. And as you know from previous blog posts, we are all about functional pieces that can be worn formally or casually.

We especially love this sterling silver ring, which makes for a great accessory for fall or winter outfit with the gorgeous emerald green stone.

While we're on the subject of unique items, we are fans of these handcrafted LSTN Fillmore Headphones. Not only is each pair unique, but for every pair of headphones sold, the company helps restore hearing to a person in need.

This blog, the small things blog, is a fun fashion blog that also features tutorials. We love the tutorials, which have taught us how to curl our hair with a hair straightener, and this fun one, which shows how to properly use bobby pins

Although we're disappointed George Clooney is officially off the market {because yes, we had a shot with him}, we are very happy for the new couple. Especially after seeing Amal in this gorgeous photo with Oscar de la Renta in the wedding gown he designed for the blushing bride.

This week's blog post of Things We Love is part of an article we were recently featured in on the People Stylewatch website.

We are especially excited to be mentioned in People Stylewatch, by their Senior Style Editor! Below is their shoutout to our boots, the Glasgow Black and the Coventry Quilted Black! Yay!

DÄV RAIN BOOTS

Alex Apatoff, Senior Style Editor: One of my style pet peeves: Putting on my knee-high rain boots to deal with the morning's monsoon weather, only to be sweating in them (and looking like I didn't check the weather forecast) by the time I'm heading out for drinks. Däv just gets me – they make rain boots that can pass for regular boots to combat both problems. I already get tons of compliments on my basic knee-high pair that I wear with tights, but this fall I'm getting an ankle bootie to wear with jeans too.

See original Stylewatch article here.

Thanks for the shoutout, People!

Be sure to come back next week for more Things We Love!

Welcome back to our Things We Love blog! We are so glad you stopped by.

We love sharing our favorite things with you every week!

If you've never heard of Sevenly, you should absolutely check it out. Each week, this organization teams up with a charity and raises money for it by selling cool t-shirts. This week's charity is Help Me See. "Each item purchased on the website this week provides FREE cataract surgery to blind children in developing country to restore their sight." So when you buy a cute shirt like this one, you are also doing a tremendously good deed.

Our new Fairfield Black/Flint boot is a real show stopper. These boots look great with a good pair of black or grey skinny jeans.

If you're still not sure how to wear those boots (but trust us, these are so versatile!), pair them with this rylie Side-Zip Tunic for that perfect fall look.

We love Adele. The girl can sing. Needless to say we adore Aretha Franklin. She's the original queen of soul. So what you're about to hear next is a magical, soulful burst of wonderful! Our girl Aretha has outdone herself and given us a sweet gift in her cover of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep" in this song. We cannot and will not stop listening.

Hope you enjoyed the song. Thanks for stopping by and be sure to come back next week for more Things We Love!

Welcome back to this week's edition of Things We Love!

Fall in love with your favorite dose of calm...

De-Stress Mi Beauty Tea is anti-inflammatory and it will come to the rescue of your skin! The blend of peppermint, licorice and chamomile is a soothing blend that will be wonderful for the chilly fall mornings that are coming.

THE "it" ring of fall, this ring is fun, trendy and elegant. Whether you are an accessory queen who never leaves the house without a full set of jewelry to accessorize your outfit, or, if you are a minimalist in the jewelry department...this ring is perfect for you! We love it!

Vince's Animal Ponte Asymmetrical Vest is trendy, fun and a perfect layering piece. It will also look amazing with your Glasgow Black boots (see below!).

You may remember we recently featured the Glasgow Oxblood booties. Now its sister, the Glasgow Black gets a turn in the spotlight. These boots are seriously fit for fall!

Burt's Bees Lip Crayon is currently our favorite lip color. So easy to apply and it adds a nice touch of color without the hassle of applying lipstick. You never cease to impress us, Burt's Bees!

That's it for now...thanks for stopping by, and be sure to come back next week for more Things We Love!

It is truly a HAPPY DAY, because the new Finley boot has finally arrived!

Oh, so stylish for fall, this is absolutely a MUST HAVE.

Everything about this outfit is right. Pair your Finley boots with a pair of skinny jeans and a comfy sweater to capture the essential fall "look"

If having a purse addiction is wrong, then we don't want to be right. We believe that a girl can never, ever have too many bags. This leather bag found at Zara is so perfect for fall!

And...if you weren't already hungry, we apologize for the following, irresistible pumpkin dessert.

We're looking forward to baking these salted caramel pumpkin muffins over the weekend...

All about that oxblood!!!

Fall is here (along with our pumpkin spice lattes!) and we are READY for fun, fearless fall fashion!

This is THE boot of fall. The Glasgow Oxblood (also comes in Black) is so fun, we doubt you'll ONLY be wearing these in the rain.

In our eyes, OPI can do no wrong...especially when they come out with colors like this

Elegant, yet practical. What more could we want in a purse? Thanks, Fossil. We have found our new fall bag

It's almost Friday, which means it's almost the weekend!

Enjoy!
